Hello, my dear sublimation folks! You know how to sublimate on the tumbler by using the heat press. Right! But did you know that you can also sublimate the tumbler by using an oven also? Don’t be surprised. And I’m not lying either. You can sublimate the tumbler by using the oven also. So without delay let’s get started!
What is a sublimation tumbler?
It is nothing but a tumbler made up of stainless steel. It comes in white or light colours and a polyester coating on it. One more thing it is susceptible to heat means it is heat resistant and can withstand high temperatures in the heat press. So you can say that it is made up for sublimation printing only.
Let us have a look at the supplies needed to sublimate the tumbler.
What are the supplies you need to sublimate on the tumbler?
- Sublimation Printer
- Sublimation Ink
- Convection Oven
- Heat Resistant Tape
- Gloves
- Blank Sublimation Tumbler
- Lint Roller
- Sublimation Wrap/Shrinkwrap
Know how to Make a Sublimation Tumbler in Oven – Step by Step Guide
The step-by-step guide on how to do sublimation on the Tumbler is as follows:
Step 1: turn on your convection oven and set it to 375 degrees so it heats up fully while you work on creating your transfer. Check the manufacturer’s guidelines to know the exact temperature settings.
(Please use the thermometer for accurate reading of the temperature inside the oven to get the accuracy)
Step 2: Be prepared with your design:
Here your first task is to finalise your design. First, decide if you want any of your own personal designs or photos or want to download them. Or use others also. First, finalise it.
Step 3: Resize your design:
Once you finalise your design, then resize it because it is not necessary that your design will rightly fix the size of the tumbler. For resizing you can use software like Adobe Photoshop or Canva. I always use Canva for my projects as I feel more confident and comfortable with it.
Some things you can keep in mind while resizing are:
If you want to sublimate a full tumbler, then don’t measure it manually. Just read the product description. You will get the information about its size.
If you want to sublimate on the specific area of the tumbler then you have to measure it manually and resize it accordingly.
Step 4: Now it’s time to print your design. Print your design on the sublimation transfer paper using the sublimation printer or the converted inkjet printer that you have. But before printing just mirror your design.
Step 5: Now you have a print in your hand. Just cut the edges of your print with the help of a scissor or a cutter. What if I don’t cut the edges? The lining occurs on the final design along the paper edges. And it completely destroys your work.
Step 6: Turn on the heat press. Read the product description to know the exact temperature and time required to transfer your design onto the tumbler. Every tumbler material will be different so the need for temperature and time also vary.
I took my heat press on 3400 F for 60 seconds.
Step 7: Clean the tumbler properly with the help of a lint-free cloth to remove the dust and other particles from the tumbler.
Now wrap your design print around the tumbler and secure it with heat-resistant tape. So that the design will not move while heat pressing.
Step 8: Wrap the set-up with the sublimation wrap. And put it in the oven for 6 minutes. But wait! Here you have to keep one thing in mind. Just rotate your tumbler after 3 minutes so that the tumbler will sublimate on all sides and evenly.
Step9: Wear your heat-resistant hand gloves and take out your Tumblr from the oven. Now remove the wrap and the transfer paper from the tumbler. Yeah! I know it is warm. But when you remove it when it is warm, it removes properly without any debris on the tumbler and secures air from ghosting or blurring the design.
Step 10: Blow the design to the world.
Conclusion:
With that, I hope you got all the clarity about how to sublimate on the tumbler by using an oven and without using a heat press. Yeah! It is easy and fast but you won’t get that much vivid design like a heat press. But I suggest you try it and let me know your feedback. I’m eagerly waiting for your oven-sublimated tumbler.
