Many times I just went through the questions like what is dye sublimation, why dye sublimation, and many more questions related to the dye sublimation. With my practical experience of 15+ years, today I’m on the mission to give you the exact and all the information about the concept of dye sublimation. So without delay let’s get started!
What is dye sublimation printing?
Dye sublimation is the digital printing method. It uses dye based ink to print the design. Then this design will be transferred onto your desired substrate (the material on which you want to do printing) with the application of heat.
What are the materials required for the dye sublimation printing?
The following are the materials required for the dye sublimation printing.
- A special sublimation ink (Dye based sublimation ink)
- Transfer paper
- Printer
- Heat Press
- Substrate (An item/material on which the design will be transferred)
- Heat Resistant Tape

How does dye sublimation printing work?
Dye sublimation, the process name itself speaks loudly that it works on the chemical principle of sublimation. In this process, by using dye based ink, the design will be printed out. Then this design stick to the substrate and heat is applied with the help of the heat press. By the application of heat this ink is directly take the gaseous form from its solid state and merge with the substrate at its molecular level.
How long does it last?
Longevity or life of any product depends on the two factors and the dye sublimation is not an exception for that.In sublimation longevity depends on quality and care of the product.
Quality: This include the initial quality of the substrate use and the ink used for the sublimation. In the sublimation process ink plays the crucial role. The quality of the print vary from ink to ink. The ink, sublimation paper and the other machines used for the printing process will definitely affects the quality of the printing. So selecting the product wisely and carefully is the key to achieve higher quality in printing.
Care: It includes the before and after printing care. Before printing, use the clean, clear and debris free substrate will help you to embeds the ink properly and give you the desired result. Sublimation printing gives you the flexibility of multiple washes. But during use if you handle the products carefully then it lasts long.

Why dye sublimation printing?
Dye sublimation printing provides you with the features which are unmatched with the other printing methods. The features provided by the dye sublimation printing are:
- Quality: It provides you with the high quality print on the synthetic fibres like polyester, polyester coated materials and the other products as well which are compatible with the sublimation and heat too.
- Longevity: In this printing process, the ink is embedded directly onto the molecular level. So the print quality it provides will have a long life without fading and cracking.
- Accuracy: This process is directly done in the presence of high heat. High and uniform heat provided by the heat press converts ink directly in the gaseous form. So there is nearly zero chance of smudging and bleeding.
- Versatile Nature: The sublimation ink provides you with versatility. It works well on many substrates from polyester apparels to the tiles and glass also.

Anyone on the earth can use the dye sublimation printing. From artists by heart and a normal homemaker to the big businesses can use it. As it is easy, affordable and quick. It can be used by variety of individuals and businesses like;
- Businesses: It includes custom apparel businesses, promotional product companies, home décor companies, small business owners, photographers, event management companies and event planners, etc.
- Artists: The people like homemakers who have a passion for printing, DIY or home décor, graphics designers & artists, etc.
- And many other people also love to do dye sublimation printing for its ability to provide you with long lasting, vivid, vibrant and high resolution prints on a variety of the materials.
